School Kids, Maths and Surveying

inherIT recently helped out at local initiative to run a day excursion for school children. The primary aim of this excursion was to encourage more children to continue with mathematics as well as introduce them to the fascinating world of surveying. Having had no experience with surveying, it was a great learning experience for us too. The students used various pieces of equipment to survey an area in bicentennial park. As a part of the excercise, they used the measurements taken to plot the area on a computer using a software called miniCAD as well as superimposing this drawing on a photo of the park.

inherIT helped out with teaching the children how to use miniCAD and the provision of laptops!! It was great to see the laptops being utilised for a good cause. We're glad to have been able to help and hope that some of these children choose to stick with math as they go on to pursue higher studies. Nearly 200 school children from different Sydney schools attended the event and we hope that they gained something useful out of the experience.
